Job Description

The Associate Category Manager (ACM) is responsible for the buy cycle for select departments and skus within the category and manages all related processes to meet/exceed sales, margin, and turnover plans. The ACM is responsible to create, implement and manage a merchandise strategy for assigned products and collaborate with the Category Director and cross-functional partners (POD) on all aspects of the category. The ACM is required to have advanced customer intelligence and knowledge of product and industry trends gained from engagement with and in stores, competitive shopping, trend reviews, and vendor insights. This role collaborates with product development partners and vendors to source new product opportunities and improve current offerings. The role is responsible to utilize analysis to drive their strategy and decision making. The ACM is responsible to coordinate the space planning and merchandising process to ensure effective and optimal presentations (plan-o-grams) are delivered to stores. Partnering with Marketing, the ACM is responsible to champion opportunities to promote product awareness. The ACM coaches others on the team to deliver optimal performance. With support from the entire category team, the role will direct activities related to assortment planning, vendor management, pricing and marketing for depts./skus to maximize sales and profitability.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Overall P&L responsibility for assigned categories
  • Direct vendor negotiations driving sales and profitability for assigned categories
  • Identify market trends and collaborate with Category Manager on a competitive merchandise assortment plan that is customer focused based on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the market; evaluate the market continually to revise strategies
  • Executes balanced assortment by partnering with Product Development team to develop product including sourcing and monitoring delivery of product and quality control
  • Analyzes and negotiates proposals for product based on trend, price, delivery time and quality to select the most appropriate vendors
  • Identify, test and recommend new products/categories/business opportunities to improve both in store and online experience
  • Analyze all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales reports and participates in weekly business review meetings
  • Determine item lifecycles and exit strategies as well as identify items to maximize promotional and marketing strategies
  • Facilitates strong working relationships between corresponding Merchandising teams, Planning, Operations, Marketing, and the field organization
  • Partner with e-Commerce partners to share the product/category vision and strategy in order to execute and launch on
  • Partner with design and production teams to manage the timeline on all product development
  • Perform and manage administrative functions as needed

  • Bachelor's degree in retail, fashion or marketing preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of merchandise experience required; preferably with a large organization in a similar role
  • Thorough knowledge of buying and operations gained through progressive experience
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with strong analytical, decision-making and organization skills
  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, professional manner and a willingness to be a team player and assist co-workers at all levels
  • Ability to react quickly and with a strong sense of urgency
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Expected Salary Range: $70,000-85,000

The salary range offered for this position is a good faith description of the expected salary range this role will pay. PCHI reserves the right to pay more or less than the stated range based on a variety of factors such as experience, geography, etc
