Job Overview:

The Merchandise Planner builds financial sales, gross margin and inventory plans for multiple departments in a given area. Builds pre-season plans and manages sales and inventory forecasts in-season to drive the achievement of overall category financial goals. This position ensures that plans and forecasts align with the merchandise strategies and goals of the department. Manages and plans merchandise inventory positions and disposal strategies to drive departmental sales, inventory, profit and turnover objectives. Provides in-season financial projections and strategies.  Identifies risks and opportunities to maximize profit. Contributes to projects resulting in improved departmental systems and efficiencies.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Build financial sales, gross margin and inventory plans at a weekly level Plan and forecast sales and margin by department and class. Create sales and margin forecasts by period and week.
  • Develop forecasts and scenarios by utilizing category and class trends, seasonality, ad schedules, new plano-grams (POG)/new item introductions, seasonal selling periods, and promotional events.
  • Present results to management for input and approval.
  • Generate variance to plan and forecast reports for sales, margin, and inventory by week, period, and quarter.
  • Produce margin and productivity analysis at the category, class and SKU level as needed.      
  • Collaborate with inventory partners to ensure inventory plans and forecasts align with merchandise strategy
  • Partner and share information and analysis with cross functional teams to ensure alignment and foster collaboration.
  • Participate in all operational meetings with business partners where results and analytics are presented for use in the tactical decision-making process.
  • Identify and communicate any sales, margin, and inventory risks and opportunities that may affect goals of department to management.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with merchants (both retail and web) and inventory planning.
  • Reforecast business in-season based on current performance, present revised projections and recommendations to cross functional partners and senior leadership
  • Develop, consolidate and communicate a comprehensive pre-season planning strategy that identifies opportunities and risks in all areas of responsibility
  • Strategize, develop and present seasonal key item plans that support sales and GM goals
  • Ensure promotional effectiveness and make future recommendations
  • Manage in=season performance and make markdown or chase recommendations
  • Identify and communicate potential inventory liabilities and drive appropriate actions to resolution
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to communicate division level financial merchandising plans and merchandise strategies to support the financial objectives
  • Work with Merchandising Team to develop promotional strategies to maximize profitability
  • Participate in:
    • All aspects of line building process with Merchandising Lead or participate in department projects to improve systems or efficiencies
    • Development of processes that build efficiencies and streamline work streams

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in finance, business preferred or equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years experience in retail and finance; merchandise planning and/or buying/merchandising preferred
  • Experience in high volume, fast paced, retail environment
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities effectively
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence multiple partners on business decisions and able to troubleshoot issues for best possible resolution.
  • Strong analytical skills – ability to analyze and understand quantitative data
  • General business acumen: should be able to understand the big picture and how tasks align to it
  • Intermediate to expert technical skill proficiency (PC-based) using functions in Excel – v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.

Expected Salary Range: $80,440 - 100,550

The salary range offered for this position is a good faith description of the expected salary range this role will pay. PCHI reserves the right to pay more or less than the stated range based on a variety of factors such as experience, geography, etc.
