Job Overview:

The Sr. Merchandise Planning Manager is responsible for the financial management of assigned departments including the execution of sales, margin, and inventory plans across multiple channels (US Party City & Halloween City stores, DC-fulfilled from partycity.com website and Amazon Marketplaces).  Through a close partnership with Merchant Category Managers, the Planning Manager will develop financial plans that support merchandising strategies and oversee the management of bottoms-up plans, while developing an independent middle-out perspective. The Sr. Manager is responsible for providing direction, management, training, and guidance to Merchandise Planners.  The Manager of Merchandise Planning will work cross-functionally, interacting with a wide range of departments including Merchandising, Inventory Planning, Sourcing, Finance, Marketing, Pricing, and Space Planning.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Own the first review of financial plans for departments within area of responsibility (pre-season and in-season)
  • Monitor/manage the weekly forecasts prepared by Planners to ensure that the bottoms-up plans reflect current market conditions, trends and strategies
  • Create/maintain middle-out plans and forecasts to guide bottoms-up development and bridge tops-down and bottoms-up plans
  • Accountable for providing actionable analysis and recommendations to Merchant leaders and Director of Merchandise Planning to inform business decisions
  • Assortment analysis to inform seasonal purchase plan and reset decisions
  • Create weekly reports and recaps used to analyze business and direct actions for current week and beyond
  • Prepare and review ad hoc and standard analysis with regard to respective departments and identify opportunities and risks relative to sales, margin, and inventory productivity; develop action plans to address issues
  • Accountable for managing to seasonal/trend sell-through targets in categories of responsibility
  • Quickly surface potential risk to sales, margin or inventory forecasts to ensure senior leadership can plan and action strategies accordingly
  • Accountable for margin management including discounts, pricing and disposal activity for categories of responsibility as well as inventory flow, receipts, turn and EOP goal attainment
  • Drive accountability with planners and seek out opportunities to maximize performance as well as improve processes
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate at a high level with Planning leadership, Merchant teams, and Inventory Planning
  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of merchandise planners to ensure their success and development in role

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in retail planning and analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in business-related discipline preferred or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Proven track record of financially astute business management
  • Expertise in retail math with strong analytical skills
  • Intermediate to expert technical skill proficiency (PC-based) using functions in Excel – v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.
  • Experience in high volume, fast paced, retail environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence multiple partners on business decisions and able to troubleshoot issues for best possible resolution
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to identify and clearly communicate business opportunities and risks
  • Strong communicator; able to effectively convey complex topics
  • General business acumen: should be able to understand the big picture and how each task aligns to it
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-changing environment
  • Able to maintain and build effective relationships with cross-functional team

Expected Salary Range: 100,560-$125,700

 The salary range offered for this position is a good faith description of the expected salary range this role will pay. PCHI reserves the right to pay more or less than the stated range, depending on individual circumstance, as salaries are based on a variety of factors such as experience, geography, etc.
