Retail sales associates typically work on the sales floor promoting and selling merchandise such as furniture, cars, appliances, or clothing. They need to have an intimate understanding of the items they're selling to achieve optimum success in this occupation.

A typical day for a retail sales associate may include:
• Organizing and cleaning the sales floor to maintain a neat and attractive appearance
• Greeting shoppers and assessing their needs, showing merchandise and explaining features, and benefits
• Sharing information on sales, promotions, payment options, and exchange policies with customers
• Completing the sale of merchandise to incoming customers.
