Job Overview:

The Senior Inventory Accountant will be responsible for performing and overseeing key tasks within inventory accounting.  This role involves working closely with inventory control and accounts payables in providing guidance and reviewing support to our outsourced inventory accounting team. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support retail and wholesale month end close process with the preparation & review of journal entries
  • Monitor and review of inventory variances - standard costs & purchase price variances and propose adjustments where necessary
  • Prepare total company detailed inventory reserve model accounting for slow moving, LCM and disposals
  • Review inventory disposal requests and alignment to reserves and forecast
  • Work closely with Inventory Control to align on perpetual adjustments
  • Review loss & physical inventory adjustments to record book to physical journal entries as needed
  • Participate in and manage monthly corporate processes related to consolidations and eliminations of intercompany inventory and gross profit eliminations
  • Support quarterly and annual financial audits
  • Review, report and provide commentary/analysis of costs against prior periods, plan, and latest forecast, includes ad-hoc reporting, research on cost accounting questions and assistance with special projects as requested
  • Contribute toward development and documentation of controls, processes and procedures related to inventory and cost accounting.

Skills Required:

  • Solid knowledge of GAAP
  • Expertise with cost and inventory accounting is required
  • Strong financial/cost analysis and budgeting/forecasting skills.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities including Microsoft Excel skills and spreadsheet analysis techniques required with strong attention to detail
  • Manufacturing, retail, or consumer packaged goods industry experience preferred
  • Knowledge of finance, general ledger accounting, and accounts payable, as well as budgeting and cost control principles
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes and an understanding of how materials and records flow through an operation

 Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of overall experience in accounting/finance and 3+ years’ experience in cost accounting and/or manufacturing
  • BS in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP
  • Expertise with cost and inventory accounting is required
